Walk-In to Protect Our Media Center

Last Thursday, April 10, Durham Public Schools held a board meeting in which they publicly announced the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year and took community input. The first hour of the board meeting was spent by various media coordinators and DPS students speaking on the importance of school librarians and the many things that they do for our schools. This input was motivated by the proposed budget that would cut one media coordinator from every school with more than one currently.
If you know anything about the Jordan community, you know that our media coordinators, Ms. Stacy and Ms. Montgomery, do so much for the Jordan community, not just run the library. They maintain and fix every computer on campus, organize events in the library, teach classes, and so much more. On Wednesday, April 16, Jordan staff members are organizing a walk-in at 8:30 in the front parking lot of the school. All Jordan students and staff are encouraged to come out to support our media coordinators and the important role that they have in the Jordan community.
If you would like to fight for this position in other ways, there are many great ways to do so, including emailing board members, emailing Superintendent Anthony Lewis or Asst. Superintendent Nicholas King, or speaking to others about the importance of school libraries and the librarians that run them. If you would like more information on the proposed budget and other cuts that may be made, keep an eye out on our website, falconpostjhs.com, as this is a developing story that we will continue to cover.
