True Blue: Jordan’s New Assistant Principal

A new Falcon has landed! Dr. Blue is Jordan's newest assistant principal, overseeing the 12th grade class graduation cohort as well as the ESL, EC, and transportation departments. He already loves Jordan’s community dynamic and is thrilled about “an opportunity to work with Ms. Taylor, who is an exceptional leader.”

Dr. Blue is no stranger to “exceptional” leaders. His first interaction with education was at Eastside High School inPatterson, New Jersey, where the true story behind the movie Lean on Me took place. “As a matter of fact, Joe Clarke (whom the main character was based on) was a mentor of mine,” he says.

Dr. Blue most recently worked for three years at Saint Augustine’s University, a private historically Black Christian college, as an academic advisor and adjunct. There, Dr. Blue worked with first generation college students under a federally sponsored program, helping them pursue going to graduate school with application and schedule aids. His impactful work at Saint Augustine was connected to his personal life growing up. “I grew up in a single parent household,” he shares, “in an environment that was surrounded by crime and poverty,” a story many public-school kids are familiar with. “But my mom had a vision that she wanted me to obtain the quality of education… that’s what pushed me.”

When asked why he returned to the public school setting from an HBCU, Dr. Blue exclaims, “My passion never died.” When the opportunity presented itself at Jordan, Dr. Blue “took full advantage of it.”

Beyond his occupation, Dr. Blue is a husband and a father to a ninth grader. He is a Las Vegas Raiders fan. In addition to supporting the local sports teams, he has a passion for cooking, golfing, Netflix, and is generally an open book. Dr. Blue says, “I... want [students] to know that I’m a 24/7 resource if they ever need me.” Dr. Blue can be found in the halls during lunch periods, or can be reached via email, “but if not then I’m in office 150.”

As a newfound part of the Jordan community, Dr. Blue has high hopes for its students and staff. “My vision is to move the school to higher heights, to help improve not just the academic experience, but the social experience for our students overall,” Dr. Blue says, also mentioning he wants to help assist staff, “making sure that they have the resources that they need in order to do their job,” to work collectively, in order to resolve any problems that come up for the betterment of the community.
