Prom: Night at the Disco

If you’ve ever dreamed of a night where you can wear polyester jumpsuits and bell-bottoms, this year’s prom theme is for you. Upperclassmen who attend this year’s prom will get to experience a “Night at the Disco,” where the space will be decorated with silver, orange, purple, and gold colors, and some students are hoping, will also include a disco ball. This theme was decided on primarily by Student Government, but ideas are always sent to the school administration for approval. According to Student Body Vice President Pat Adams, the leaders of SGA took theme suggestions from the student body at the meeting, and then upperclassmen voted on the theme.

After a few rounds of voting, it was narrowed down to the top four ideas. Adams explained that other theme ideas included Night in Paris, Avatar, Night at the Capital, Red Carpet, Saudi Arabia/Arabian Nights, and Enchanted Forest. While many other theme ideas existed, Student Body President Navya Mehrotra said that, “The majority of students attending the SGA meeting voted for [disco].”

Izzie Stutz , junior, said that she finds the disco theme fun, and thinks that disco balls are cool, and Aubrey Kimball, junior, also commented that he liked the theme. Some of these students who like “Night at the Disco” may partly decide their outfit based on the theme, but according to the leaders of SGA, most students will not fully embrace Disco.

Lili Boccieri, senior, stated that “I will decide my outfit at least partially based on the theme,” however, there are other students who won’t be taking Disco into consideration when picking out their prom attire.

Fiona Doughty, junior, said “I like the theme because of the decorations it entails for the prom itself, but not as much for basing my dress around it or anything.” Doughty isn’t the only prom attendee with this sentiment, and Emma Monroe, senior, stated that, “I don’t think I will purposefully dress in disco style, but if I find a dress that I love that happens to fit the theme, that would be awesome, but it’s definitely not going to dictate my dress choice.”
