In the days leading up to Big Fish, Jordan’s spring musical, students are working hard to ensure the show is a success. As technicians finish up the set, the cast is doing full run-throughs in costume.
“The musical is coming along real nicely,” said Curtis Berzofsky, junior, who plays Amos Calloway in the show. “We’ve been working hard.”
The question that the cast of Big Fish is asked most frequently is, “is Big Fish about a big fish?” The musical is actually about a man named Edward Bloom who is telling his son his life story before it’s too late. His son, Will, grows increasingly frustrated with his answers, which are in riddles and stories. Edward Bloom tells a vibrant story with daffodils, tap dancing, a circus, and witches. If you want to find out where the big fish comes in, you’d better go see the show!
Despite the current success during the Big Fish rehearsal process, at first the show had a rocky start. The cast lost their original male lead after only a couple days, leaving everyone scrambling to find a replacement. Luckily, Andrew Schreiber, senior, stepped up. Despite the fact that Andrew has not done theatre since middle school, he is mastering the role of Edward Bloom, just as the rest of the cast is working hard to ensure the show is a success.
Big Fish will be on the Jordan stage March 20-22 and 27-29. If you are interested in seeing the show, buy your tickets here: https://cejordantheatreandchorus.ludus.com
