Did you know that Jordan student government used to host a “Mr. Jordan” contest?
This was a Jordan event where female teachers would judge male students to decide that year’s “Mr. Jordan.” Student Government, then called Student Council, hosted the inaugural event in 1981 and it became a fun tradition. For the event, the girls of Student Council curated a list of male Jordan students that were good-looking and had a good personality. The contestants were asked questions such as “What dessert describes you?” and “What one thing would you want if you were stuck on a deserted island?” On top of the questions, contestants had to perform a requested talent with only 30 seconds of preparation time. The contest was judged by female teachers, who decided the winner based on talent, personality, looks, and charm. Jordan Student Council would invite WTVD, now ABC11, to film the contest and interview the contestants, airing the story later that night.
Did you know that before Jordan had multiple lunches, the cafeteria was in debt?
In 1980, with just one lunch period, the Jordan cafeteria was losing money and was unable to cover all of its operating costs. The cafeteria could not fit the entire student body in one lunch, so not enough students bought lunch, leading to the debt. The cafeterias at Northern and Southern, who used the multiple lunch system, paid off the Jordan cafeteria's debt.
