Coop! There It Is: Falcons Raise Turkeys

Every year, students from the Jordan Future Farmers of America (FFA) program have the opportunity to raise turkeys with the goal of selling them to be processed for meat. This year, there are 16 turkeys, raised by 11 students.

Students received the turkey chicks in June to raise in their houses until August, when most are transported to school and their care is continued there. Turkey care is hard work, as the students have to feed the turkeys every day, including on weekends.

For the turkeys to sell, Jordan students must show them, presenting their bird for evaluation. The birds are shown every year at the North Carolina State fairgrounds, this year on October 9th. Jordan raises turkeys at this time so they can be used for Thanksgiving, and raising and showing the birds is a great experience for FFA students.
