A Teacher’s Perspective of Infinite Campus

As Infinite Campus was introduced to North Carolina this year, schools have faced issues and problems during the first few weeks of implementation. To gain a better understanding of the transition, I talked to Dorcas Gyekye, a social studies teacher who has been teaching at Jordan for nearly five years.

I began by asking Ms. Gyekye how the school prepared teachers for the shift to Infinite Campus. Ms. Gyekye explained that the school “tried their best,” organizing “whole sessions just dedicated to Infinite Campus” before the start of the academic year. However, despite the efforts, “[the school and its administrators] also didn't have much [information],” and “there were a lot of things [staff and faculty] didn't have access to yet,” making the transition rocky and disorganized.

So how does the new Infinite Campus compare with PowerSchool for teachers?

Ms. Gyekye remarked that she “loves PowerSchool" and that “PowerSchool is familiar.” She continued with praises of PowerSchool’s visual and mechanical designs, explaining that PowerSchool not only “looked nicer” but also felt “more organized” than Infinite Campus.

However, she noted that Infinite Campus “doesn’t seem awful” and even highlighted “some hidden gems.” For example, Ms. Gyekye complimented a feature that informs teachers if a student was absent for a specific assignment, giving teachers more insight when tracking missing work.

As teachers, students, and educators adjust to Infinite Campus more help and information will emerge for everyone.
